McKenna Grace plays a young "wife," in the Gilead tradition. She's so spectacular in the show. I've just been watching the first few episodes because I'm finally doing some editing, and she's just wonderful. Watching her and Lizzie together, it's great. June comes in contact with a lot of different people in the season, a lot more than usual, I would say. «The Handmaid’s Tale season four is coming in 2021 and a new cast member was just revealed!

Zawe Ashton, best known for her work in the Netflix projects Velvet Buzzsaw and Wanderlust and her work in Broadway’s Betrayal, is joining the cast for season four.

Series creator Bruce Miller told THR that Zawe “is going to play Moira’s girlfriend and an aid worker in Toronto.”

Bruce also talked about Mckenna Grace‘s role in the upcoming season. He said she “plays a young ‘wife,’ in the Gilead tradition. She’s so spectacular in the show. I’ve just been watching the first few episodes because I’m finally doing some editing, and she’s just wonderful. Watching her and [Elisabeth Moss] together, it’s great. June comes in contact with a lot of different people in the season, a lot more than usual, I would say.”

Also, Bruce said that Reed Birney is joining the show as “someone [from the world of] Gilead, who’s unexpectedly not Reed Birney-ish, but it’s been great to be able to build, and over episodes to build characters.”

Who will star in The Handmaid's Tale season 5?

Hold your horses – season 4 hasn’t even been released and you want to know who is season 5? Well, of course you do, you’re only human.

Given the fact several of the original cast members star in a video announcing the confirmation of a fifth season, we expect to see more of Moss, Bledel and Wiley but there might be a few new faces added to the mix.

For example, we now know that British actress Zawe Ashton will be joining the season 4 cast, thanks to Miller’s comments to THR, as well as actress Mckenna Grace and actor Reed Birney.

Ashton will play ‘Moira’s girlfriend and an aid worker in Toronto', but we wonder if we’ll see more of her in season 5?

Is there a trailer for The Handmaid's Tale season 5?

No, and you shouldn’t be expecting one for a long time given that filming on season 4 is yet to wrap up.

'We planned out the whole season, started filming, and then had to stop … everything from locations, to number of people in scenes, to traveling actors, all that stuff had a huge impact on our story, just because it has to, and honestly, we're in a situation where we have to make do with what we can get our hands on,' Miller told THR. 'In the end, it was surmountable, and I think we're making an excellent show, and I'm really proud of what we're doing, but it was hard, and it continues to be hard.'

Похоже, продолжение сериала будет тяжелым и эмоциональным.

Судя по всему, сериал «Рассказ служанки» еще может получить 6 сезон. Хотя пока что об этом говорить рано, ведь на данный момент продолжается работа над 4 сезоном, премьера которого состоится в 2021 году.»

«“There are so many interesting things that have changed since last March. We were two weeks into production and all of a sudden, we had to pull the plug. And it was shocking, like jumping into cold water.”

So, season four is rolling again?

“We are rolling again. We were able to come back in Toronto and it’s been just heroic on everyone, from the people at Hulu and MGM, to the people in the paint department and the office here in L.A. The crap that they have to go through to make this show at such a level of disorder and discomfort – they are heroic. I can’t say enough about them. I’ve had to do my job in a very weird way, which is mostly remote, because I am not essential on set. My big fat brain can go via a picture, but the others have been crucial, and they’ve been out in the cold and working very, very hard. And it looks beautiful.”

Do you have a release date?

“I don’t know when we’ll wrap, only because I want to [knock on wood] not spit in the eye of a pandemic. So, we’re going to take it slowly and safely, but I think we’ll probably be on the air by June.”

How long will the show run?

“I’m thrilled to keep following June as long as she wants to go. It’s fascinating, everywhere she goes, whether she ends up somewhere in Gilead or the Republic of Texas or, on a boat in the ocean or in Canada or on Mars or wherever, I’ll follow her because her story, The Handmaid’s Tale is interesting. I’m happy to keep going with her as long as the people in charge will let me.”

How does one decide when a show has run its course?

“As long as she is a handmaid, we will cover her. The moment she stops being a handmaid, either physically or psychologically, I’ll stop. She’s been a lot of other things in the course of the time. This is that time of her life. And maybe she’s going to be a handmaid til the day she dies. But that’s what I feel – as long as it’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, I want to stay with it. That’s the life of the show.”»

Filming on a fourth season of The Handmaid's Tale is continuing after the COVID-19 pandemic halted production last year and then posed logistical problems as cameras began to roll again.


In an interview with THR.com last month, showrunner George Miller revealed that the global pandemic is influencing his thoughts about where the Hulu original series goes in the future.

'I know where I am in the story, and I do feel like we're kind of reaching kind of a pivot point,' Miller said. 'It just feels like it's a good time to reassess what you were thinking, just because the story world has opened up because the real world has changed so much.'


A fifth season of the dystopian drama has been greenlit by Disney which owns Hulu even though season four is still in the process of being made.

'We're still shooting, kind of in the middle of the season,' Miller explained.

'Honestly, we're in a situation where we have to make do with what we can get our hands on.' he said regarding locations, cast and logistics.

'In the end, it was surmountable, and I think we're making an excellent show, and I'm really proud of what we're doing, but it was hard, and it continues to be hard.'

At the end of season three, June played by Elisabeth Moss has freed children of Gilead and almost died in the process.

Season four will follow her as she tastes freedom herself for the first time in a long while as she experiences life again not 'under the thumb of Gilead'.

New characters have been added to the show.

British actress Zawe Ashton, 36, joins the cast as an aid worker in Toronto and the girlfriend of Samara Wiley's character Moira.

Veteran actor Reed Birney, 66, has signed on as a new character in Gilead.

And as previously announced, McKenna Grace, 14, plays a 'young wife' in Gilead.

There's still no date set for the premiere of The Handmaid's Tale season four although it is slated to be sometime in 2021. »<
